For me the work “Pris à la gorge” mainly evokes a violent melee, a physical altercation, disagreement. It reflects life in society where civility allows us to have cordial and even symbiotic interactions but where the definition of each individual identities and strong opinions can lead to dissent and violence. It also evokes rage and the instinctive gesture to take someone by the throat to control and choke. It also evoques the helplessness of being caught by the throat, unable to get out of a desperate situation.
In this work, the lines recall trajectories, relationships, interactions. The indefinite shapes of lyrical abstraction, its blurred boundaries could easily be identified with conciliation and civility, if it was not for the impression of threat, darkness and chaos. The regularity of ellipses and how they point to a center might indicate for its part, a collaboration, if it were not for their graphic shapes and flat areas violently contrasting with the three-dimensionality of the canvas.
